"Dolce far niente" (sweetness of doing nothing) is a 2019 unique oil on canvas painting by German mid-career artist Michael Pröpper. Comes with certificate on back. It depicts clothespins walking with shadow and text. The artists Dr. Michael Pröpper calls these works "paintings on writing". Language, writing and text are basic structures of our perception and thinking. In these handwritten pictures "I connect text and painting. Like mantras, poetry and pieces of thought are repeated in a symmetrical textual network - a visual discourse. They interact with the painterly elements and form the web and the space where everything is moving ahead." Dr. Michael Pröpper, born 1968, artist and anthropologist, lives and works as a painter and installation artist near Hamburg. Various national and international exhibitions and art fairs, e.g. in Belgium, Denmark, England Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Namibia, Austria, Sweden. For Dr. Michael Pröpper art and anthropology are two field that enrich each other and are important to one another. It is abut the pictorial reflection on how modern people are thrown into the world and wander through it. Poetry and politics, color and concept, soul and search, energy and emotion. In his paintings Pröpper is concerned with the lyeredness and translucence of the luminous world, the illusion of modern life, the incomplete nature of our blurred perception, and human consciousness in a speedy and noisy life. His paintings in oil, acrylic and many mixed-media techniques, e.g. pencil writings, are often compositions at the border between the figurative and the abstract.

It is one more effort to reach the core, the essence of the nature of light and colour which actually is the essence of the substance ascribed to the job to which the painter is doomed. What I have in mind is the paint flowing across the canvas – its liquid structure which, shaped sparingly by the will of a noble tool, as well as the force of gravity, sometimes happens to become a universal message. One can recognise this message by its sound, accompanied by one’s being particularly moved. Every very tiny particle, which has for years been made sensitive, begins to resonate in accordance with the harmony now appearing, while the seductive sound which accompanies it is capable of leading one into ecstatic vibration.
